The Challenge
Australian SMEs face over $26 billion in unpaid invoices at any given time, a cash flow crisis that directly hinders their ability to grow and operate effectively. Traditional invoice factoring options are often rigid, costly, or inaccessible, particularly for smaller businesses. Flockk’s founders recognised this gap and set out to reimagine invoice financing. Their goal: to build a more inclusive, transparent marketplace that connects businesses with a wider range of investors and offers faster, more flexible access to working capital.

The Solution
I designed a comprehensive digital platform that brought Flockk’s vision to life as an investor ready product. The solution featured an intuitive marketplace interface where businesses could list invoices and investors could seamlessly explore opportunities. It also included personalised portfolio tools to help investors manage and track their holdings with confidence.

Australia's invoice payment landscape revealed troubling patterns: over 20% of late payments were caused by invoice errors, with a significant portion due to invoices being sent to the wrong customers as a result of manual processing. At the same time, government initiatives were driving the digitisation of invoicing to boost transparency and combat fraud. These insights underscored the need for a solution that not only connected businesses with investors, but also streamlined the entire invoicing workflow through digital efficiency.

The project followed an intensive design sprint structured around a series of strategic workshops from market research and journey mapping to identifying gaps and ultimately prototyping an investor ready product. The aim was to stay focused on ideating core pages that would best communicate the platform’s value proposition rather than attempting to design the entire platform.
